Abstract

Lymphedema is a type of edema that is characterized by an abnormal increase in protein-rich interstitial fluid in the affected tissues. Its etiology can be primary or secondary. The most common in our environment is upper limb lymphoedema secondary to the treatment of breast cancer. Lower limb lymphoedema is usually due to gynecological cancer treatment. The most common conservative treatment is complex decongestive physical therapy, which consists of skin care, manual lymphatic drainage, physical exercise, therapeutic education and compressive therapy. We present the case of a patient with a diagnosis of grade III lower limb lymphoedema secondary to an endometrial cancer to which a multilayer bandage of low elasticity is applied for five consecutive days, without further treatment, which is renewed in each session. On the first and last day of treatment, the volume of the affected limb of lymphedema is measured to estimate the reduction in volume using the Markowski formula. A decrease in lymphedema volume of 2.84% was observed.
